Overview

Learn to build the right product — and build it the right way.The Certified Scrum Product Owner® (CSPO) is Scrum Alliance's foundation certification for Product Owners and anyone shaping products, services or change. Over two live online days you'll take one product — a simulation experience/game — from first idea to working features, using the tools great Product Owners use every day.
You'll work in small teams, use AI to research, prototype and refine your ideas, and leave with practical techniques you can apply straight away.
Format: Two days, live online (Zoom and Miro). Includes Scrum Alliance CSPO certification — no exam.
Add AI: Bundle your CSPO course with the Scrum Alliance 'AI for Product Owners', a 4-hour on-demand microcredential. From strategic planning to backlog management, learn how AI can streamline your work.

What will you learn?

🎯 The right product The Product Owner role, why value matters most, and how to set realistic expectations early — through the Cone of Uncertainty.
💡 Ideas and the Product Goal Prioritise ideas by value and effort with Bang for Your Buck, and write an inspiring Product Goal that connects to your 'why'.
🔍 Product discovery Use AI-assisted due diligence/research, the Lean Canvas and Impact Mapping to test whether an idea is desirable, feasible and viable.
🗺️ Roadmaps, customers and users Build a goal-oriented Product Roadmap, agree delivery sliders with stakeholders, and understand users with personas, empathy maps and low-definition prototypes.
👥 The Product Owner role in depth Work with stakeholders and multiple teams, explore the PO Radar and go though a deep dive into the Product Owner role, learning from Sam and the other Product Owners in the group.
📈 Releases, backlog and value Plan product releases, refine the backlog with MoSCoW and create acceptance criteria, experience the Scrum events and measure value with metrics such as Net Promoter Score.

How the two days run

Day 1 is about building the right product — through Product Discovery (which we break down to Idea, Discovery and Inception). Day 2 is about building it the right way — understanding the Product Owner role, planning releases and creating/managing a backlog, a Scrum simulation and measuring value. One fun simulation / game, runs through it all.
1. The right product and the Product Goal Meet the Product Owner role and the product maturity phases, prioritise game ideas with Bang for Your Buck, write a Product Goal.
2. Discovery Use AI to support your product due diligence / customer and market research — including a devil's advocate view — then build a Lean Canvas and an Impact Map with your team.
3. Inception Agree the delivery sliders (scope, cost, time & quality), map epics to a goal-oriented Product Roadmap, create personas with AI and an empathy map without it, and explore low-definition prototypes.
4. Product Owner deep dive Discuss Henrik Kniberg's 'Product Owner in a Nutshell', map the role on the PO Radar, and work with stakeholders and multiple teams in the 'Tame the Zoo' simulation.
5. Releases and the Product Backlog Answer the two big questions — how much and when — plan a release, prioritise with MoSCoW and write acceptance criteria with our Refine Me AI assistant.
6. Scrum simulation and measuring value Run two Sprints as the Product Owner — building real game features with AI — then define what success looks like and create metrics. Complete the feedback survey to receive your CSPO certification. What you'll leave with
  • Scrum Alliance CSPO certification — no exam required
  • Hands-on practice with the Lean Canvas, Impact Mapping and a goal-oriented Product Roadmap
  • Techniques for understanding users: personas, empathy maps and low-definition prototypes
  • Prioritisation tools: Bang for Your Buck, delivery sliders and MoSCoW
  • Experience as the Product Owner in a two-Sprint simulation
  • AI prompts and tools, including our Refine Me assistant for acceptance criteria
  • Course slides, templates and our WhatsApp learning community
If you don't understand your customers, you don't have a product. This course helps you understand both.
